January 18, 2017 - I expect a VC wine to bring it with bold ripe fruit, and when the mood strikes it can be a lot of fun, but this particular bottle overdid it for me. If the nose was mostly cherry Jolly Rancher with some vanilla, oak, blueberry and spice, on the palate it tasted like liquified cherry Jolly Rancher and not much else. Virtually no tannins to speak of and not much acidity; certainly not enough to balance the thick mouthfeel, refresh the palate or complement food. I could feel the 15.5% ABV on the finish (and I'm no alco-phobe by any means). If you want a wine cocktail aperitif, are serving to newbs or just like the style, you might score this higher than my 86. If you're Eric Asimov or an AFWE type, you'd surely reverse the digits. In any case, I advise drinking up sooner rather than later -- it doesn't have the structure for long aging in my opinion.

May 18, 2015 - Very nice, rich flavors but not overwhelming. A Solid Grenache

April 26, 2014 - Opened 2 hours before pouring. Delicious and just got better as evening progressed. Wish I'd bought more.

May 28, 2013 - Popped and poured. Took it's time to open up. Still had sharp tannins after an hour - a bit mouth puckering. Beneath the tannin was deep notes of black cherry and plum. Seems to be in an inbetween phase. Would hold for a year.

March 23, 2013 - Wine tasting party - Nice purple color in the glass. Wonderful aromas of red fruit; all eight tasters loved the nose. Some felt a bit of effervescence in the mouth and bold fruit flavors. We then tried it with dark chocolate and agreed this was an excellent combination.
