Community Tasting Notes 4

July 20, 2011 - I've had mixed luck with Potel '99's from villages and 1er sites. Lately, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all. This continues in the tradition of his corked Volnays and lackluster wines from Chambolle, in fact I'm having trouble remembering the good times. Where's JJ Walker when I need him? Not recording tasting notes that I can tell. Nose is a little dull and sour, with some sous bois notes. Fruit noticeably recessive in the mouth, it's more mite than dyno. Marginally engaging for its faded pinot character. Should be consumed before whatever pleasure it offers dissipates.

    January 29, 2007 - Delicate, light-bodied, not concentrated, pleasant.

December 31, 2005 - Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim.
Medium + intense, developed nose with fairly ripe raspberry and cherry fruit, plenty of spice and hints of vanilla.
On the palate this has medium/medium + acidity and low/medium soft tannins. A medium bodied wine with pretty good depth of spicy red fruit on the mid-palate, followed by plenty of savour and spice on a reasonable length finish.
Nice village burgundy, drinking very well, should be fine for another couple of years.

December 7, 2004 - Pale/medium garnet core, wide brick red rim, orange tints. Moderate intensity developed nose with red cherry, spice and hints of vanilla. Dry, medium + acidity and low, softening tannins. Reasonable depth on the palate with spicy cherry character, good length finish. Good/very good if slightly straight-forward village burgundy, drink up over next 2 years.

(Potel Nicolas Chambolle-Musigny) Medium cherry colour. Nose is red cherry and subtle violets. Good fruit concentration on the sweet palate with nice acidity and medium tannins. Medium length too. Very good, but not the class of Mugnier's.
