March 30, 2024 - Tremendous nose, floral, fruity, minty, medicinal. Wine coats the mouth with red fruit and some heat. Appears to be close to peak, maybe a couple years left for blending of fruit and heat. Beautiful finish with herbal accents.

December 30, 2023 - Cranberries, red cherries, fennel, tea leaves

Brick colour is evident, tannins very much present but not aggressive. It coats the mouth like cream.

It’s a big wine however it shows the elegance of Nebbiolo.

It fills the palate, nose has moved on to bouquet garni, beef stock , intense floral notes, violets, camphor, iron.

Intense nose, finish medium +, within its drinking window but will benefit from further ageing

    Easily 20 years left

December 29, 2023 - 4 hours decant (I’d advise more I think at the moment).

More relaxed than this time 5 years ago, but this is most certainly a wine built for the ages. It centres on cherry, but there’s definitely a savoury edge, and a spice (pepper? Mint even?). Plenty of acidity, but tannins still much more prominent than it's (more feminine?) stablemate.

Much, much more stuffing than La Serra (although, in mitigation, I'm a bigger fan of the La Serra style).
There’s something else on the finish that I can’t quite put my finger on, it’s almost like the paint box aspect I get with some vintages of La Serra).

In conclusion - this is going to depend how you like 'em. The potential is off the charts but, for me, I think another 5 years is going to be hugely beneficial (rather like my other half predicted a few years ago!)

December 4, 2023 - This wine is in a perfect spot (for me). Beautiful fruit is still there, and tertiary notes are present, but not in the forefront. Textbook classic Barolo.

December 2, 2023 - This is about peak drinking right now if your palate doesn't want to trade thinner acidity for remaining fruit. I'd give the aromatics a 93 and mouth 89 if I could split the score.

(Marcarini Barolo Brunate) Medium red violet color; appealing, dried berry, licorice, plum pudding, raspberry nose; tasty, refined, dried berry, plum pudding, anise, spice palate; enjoyable now but could use 5-plus years; medium-plus finish
