This really is superb for an entry level Donnhoff. Nose of stones, apples and flowers. Beautifully balanced on the palate.

January 16, 2014 - As a lean, dry wine, it ticks the right boxes. It would be a nice summer wine. But I don't get a lot of riesling character.

July 27, 2013 - The 2011 Donnhoff Riesling Trocken is light gold in colour with a pronounced nose of wet slate, unripe pineapples, green apples and an underlying dry woodiness.

Upon entry, the palate expresses a tingling honeysuckle and wet slate before hitting full flavours in its mid palate with pineapples and grapefruit and finishing off with flavours of lime and lemon. Acidity stretches from start to end giving good freshness to the wine. A great value, bright, refreshing entry level wine.

Nothing too complex, yet not too boring at all.

July 26, 2013 - We expected this to be dryer and firmer but effectively it felt like a cheap production of a Kabinet level wine. The nose was nice petrolly with light floral elements but that is where this wine finishes and vanishes into the generic whatever wines. 84

June 15, 2013 - Cool aromas of apples, melon, wet slate, and citrus zest. Medium bodied and well balanced on the palate with honeydew, tangerine, and ripe lemon. Firm acidity and a granite minerality drive finishing lime and peach pit. A very well made entry level trocken, with years ahead and upside in the cellar.

(Dönnhoff Estate Riesling Trocken) ($22.00) Quiet wine, not reticent but also not chatty; quiet evening, cool, leaves burning not far away, roast is in the oven, and the book is absorbing. Slate-smoke rises in wispy curls. Few words, but all to the point.
