March 31, 2024 - Shared with Xavier94 a day after first opening it (See his note); there’s certainly no rush on these but I’d found this bottle with an entirely corroded wet capsule and significant leakage evidenced by fill level. LBL’s adamance on overfilling bottles created this tragedy. Fortunately just a few other bottles in the case got stained, but why the hell???!!! Pathetic that the person posting the above photo perfectly captured this issue with an obviously stained label. Even more pathetic that a wine like this, which needs a lot more bottle aging, will undoubtedly result in more sad “leaker” experiences!!!👺👺👺

March 31, 2024 - The score here doesn’t mean much as Joe brought this over on day two but I would say that this wine remains a true. “Vin de garde” with obvious material for the long haul…

Dark appearance with glimpses of fresh beets/ dill type of vegetal tinge to the very dark, somber black cherry and berry fruit. Almost cassis-like. Powerful tannic structure. Should hold for quite some time!

July 27, 2023 - I really had no intention of opening one of these but in rummaging through some cases I found this one with the capsule appearing ripped from the bottle’s top. Oops, another “Leroy Leaker”! Due to the old gal’s fetishized insistence on overfilling bottles, I now have capsules corroded by wine that leaked through the corks. Who ever posted the above photo on this wine had a leaker as you can clearly see stains all over the labels. Someone should convince LLB that generosity is in her wines, not in trying to provide one extra small sip per bottle! 😡
Oh, the wine itself? As in nearly all cases, the wine still in the bottle did not seem affected by the apparent calamity. But there’s no doubt that people who buy what they can get of these, keep half of them to drink and hoping to sell the rest at a greatly inflated price, face an enormous risk that selling prospects get crushed by wine stained leaker bottles and labels.

July 26, 2023 - Grand Opening of Kampai bar (Auckland CBD): medium body, fresh berries, savoury mushroom, meat, a little mineral hints. all smooth and mellowed together, fine grained tannins, fresh acidity. excellent on elegance and balance, with good complexity and freshness.

Very enjoyable and pleasant, it's a Leroy, nothing to say, just salute then empty the bottle!

November 4, 2021 - Fully saturated cork and signs of seepage. Decanted for 2 hours. Gorgeous wine. In my opinion, it outperformed a 1999 Groffier Clos de Beze. It also over delivered above the regional "Bourgogne" classification - Village or low 1er Cru vineyard at least. You could tell that this has stem inclusion in the winemaking. Beautiful wine.

September 2, 2021 - Ready to go. Even though cork was saturated, it still showed decently well and pedigree.

January 24, 2021 - Medium red color, slightly cloudy. PNP, drank a glass plus over 2 hours. These are just so dang good. If this isn't the best Bourgogne out there, I'd like to taste what's better. This has a classically gorgeous nose; starting with that great funk and then offering up earth and fine tobacco, cherry, iron, leather, and a perfume of red fruit and dried flowers. The palate is just as good, light medium bodied with deceptive depth, earthy, red cherry fruits, leather, iron and beef blood, funk, tobacco, and some fine grained tannins. This starts out so nice and just builds even further. Not exactly a value Bourgogne...or is it! 92+ to 93pts.

December 28, 2020 - Very nice and drinking well tonight. Still no need to hurry though, I suspect this has lots of years to go.
