November 5, 2021 - A private dinner with friends (at home): Quite and advanced bottle, full colour, rich and spicy style, very evolved and without much fruit left, good weight and concentration, relatively short finish. Retaste.

July 24, 2020 - 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2010 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): *** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note ***
Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux
Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later.
Clear deep golden amber color. Nose with some caramel, warm fruit. Palate was much better, good pressure, grip, depth, minerality and length. 89-90 -

April 11, 2020 - Rich but lively medium straw yellow colour; deep and layered nose, aromatic green herbs, smoky slate, ripe stone fruit with a tropical edge, earthy and spicy, hint of flower honey; the palate is a testament to the very specific 2010 vintage in the Rheingau, with exciting tension and interplay between vibrant acidity and succulent fruit, juicy and rich and satisfying, but with a firm minerally core and well-judged bitters; excellent resonance and length. According to Josi Leitz, this will age for 20-25 years, and I have no doubt that it will, but it will never be better than today. At perfect peak. I am not scoring it higher because it does not have the perfect balance conveyed by a perfect growing season - it is exciting rather than profound. Drink now - 2025.

April 14, 2019 - A special old-vine selection from the Schlossberg. Incredibly rich and full, the immensely concentrated ripe fruit still completely envelops the underlying minerality and high 2010-acidity. Vinous, deep and rich and spicy, a real powerhouse. At nine years of age, this is only just entering its plateau of maturity - this still has at least 15 more years of positive development in it.

2011 German Catalog, 3/1/2011 (link)(Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling "Ehrenfels") ($55.00) This seems a little sweeter and also a little more tart; it’s certainly more emphatically mineral, with a pinch of acidity but it shows as a jalapeño jab rather than a tooth-clenching sharpness, all riding over a wave of sweet hay, lees and casky umami. Fascinating embryo here; can’t wait to see what happens.
