February 18, 2024 - This is past its prime, but drinkable. Smells of sweet blackberry, spice and flowers. Medium-bodied, this is showing hints of oxidation on the palate. The cork broke in two, so perhaps other bottles will be better.

October 7, 2017 - Still a nice amount of fruit and good balance. Stone fruits, soft tannins and mineral notes. Big wine that held up nicely and might be past it's prime but drinking well nonetheless.

September 12, 2015 - It was a wonderful wine...rich and nice tannins, beautiful nose. Ate with steak and it was better than the steak!

November 24, 2011 - Fantastic bottle of Malbec. Rich and racy without any rough edges. Not for fans of acid. This is a hedonistic bottle of wine that smelled great and tasted better! The turkey loved it!!

October 5, 2011 - Much better than my last bottle which must have suffered from shock. This one's more settled altogether. The cocky youthful exuberance is of course long gone, but the charms of the middle age are today much more evident. Medium bodied, some red fruits, a hint of spice, good acidity. And, crucially, in harmony with itself. Drink now

June 11, 2011 - Purchased in '04. Blackberry juice in the glass, good concentration fading slightly to rim. Nose is very numb, a bit of dark fruits, no obvious Malbec traits on display. Full bodied in the mouth, slightly hot, some fleshy cherry fruit and oak but the typical perfume seems to be long gone, and no signs of tannins either. A long, slightly non-descript finish with oak prevailing. Pity. I had hoped these Catena wines would keep better but good lesson for the future. Decent value and interesting as an experiment, but drink whatever you have left asap.

September 27, 2008 - Disappointing. Limited nose of berry and brambles. Medium-bodied. Not a lot of depth. Blackberries and a little plum. This bottle should have offered far more than was there. It was just OK. Perhaps a bottle flaw. (D 6.5, F 4)

April 19, 2007 - Much better than I expected and has some life left in it. Really well-knit and complete, if not profound. Wouldn't wait forever, but I'd bet it has a couple of years.

March 24, 2006 - Tasting of Argie wines (Brussels, Belgium): Showing a bit less concentration of color than the Catena but still a deep color with little signs of evolution, this wine has a refined and complex nose of ripe prunes, tobacco, chocolate and a hint of mint. In the mouth it is ample and refined with a good concentration of acidity and tannin. Well made, this wine should be cellared for a few extra years in order to show all its potential.
