December 9, 2014 - Modest nose showing woodiness more than fruitiness. Much lighter than I expected on the tongue. Some black fruit flavors but, certainly, not “over the top.” Some tobacco hints towards the back of the palate. There is some tannin here, and, way in the back I get some acid tartness, but the paucity of either suggests to me that this wine does not have much of an aging future. I’m enjoying it, today, but I’m also glad I pulled it out of my cellar.

October 2, 2014 - some have said this wine is a fruit bomb, blueberry shake and only good for tasting by itself. Maybe so, but it has tannins that suggest long life, fruit on the nose and palate that coat and very long finish with oak and vanilla flavors. If you don't like those things, you won't like this wine. However, this wine will continue to evolve and do so much in the coming years, I can't wait for my other 4 bottles. Excellent job!

September 21, 2014 - Rich nose of black fruit, briar, dry spice. Palate is jammy, with blackberry and a blast of alcohol heat (15.6%). Tannins and acid balance out the sweetness, making it tolerable with dinner, but basically this is a tasting room wine - over the top in normal circumstances.

September 14, 2014 - 30-60 mins of air. Medium nose, expressive palate of blue fruits, baking spices, and slight earth. Well balanced.

April 20, 2014 - Dark crimson color with a sharp, angular nose of dried meat and black fruits. The palate is dry and lifted with a tight grip on limestone slate, currant, and dark cherry notes. Strong, very upbeat and structured with lively acidity. Finishes long with hints of tobacco, graphite, smoke and spice. Not one of my favorite Estate Reds from Chalk Hill. The 2008 came out more balanced and supple. And the 2007 was just as powerful, but had riper, rounder fruit. Drink now with 40 minutes decanting until 2024.
