March 16, 2024 - I too thought this wine is a bit modern in style, but very enjoyable. I also found it a bit reserved on the nose, fruit hidden behind slightly damp forest floor. Lots of fruit comes at you on the palate, and then minerality and well-integrated tannins dominate the finish.

93 pts

July 10, 2022 - 91 AM: Tasting note: A lightly spiced nose evidences a hint of smoke as well as plenty of minerality on the ripe cassis, plum and violet infused nose. There is excellent richness and mid-palate concentration to the suave, round and mouth coating flavors that possess fine delineation before terminating in a mineral-inflected, dusty and impressively persistent finish. Lovely

September 20, 2021 - Wonderful attractive complex savoury (brambles in a forest, mushrooms, beets) aroma. Fresh, rich palate. Oak plays an important flavour role, but it’s integrated.

    Seriously good wine.

Drink over the next 5 years. No reason to wait. No rush either.

    13.5%, cork

Équilibré et long. Boire d'ici 2025.

Belle longueur. Un Volnay atypique mais franchement délicieux. 92-93 pts

October 15, 2019 - Richer on the 2nd night, on the first night I was impressed by the acid core, still am but now it’s put on some weight. This isn’t instantly recognisable as Volnay but nor is it likely to ever turn into fruitcake Pinot.

    Good stuff.

August 20, 2019 - Wow. Absolutely gorgeous and still a baby. Open about 2 hours. Fragrant rose petals and freshly cut cherries and pomegranate. Light touches of peppery truffles and moist earth. Gorgeous slightly darker fruit on the palate. Feminine and delicate. Very much an Old World light skinned grape. Lush but fresh finish. Very floral again. Lovely wine with some tannin still left to integrate. Try back in about 5-7 years and this can go for 10-15 more easily.

April 7, 2019 - A Survey of Volnay (Chicago, IL): A mild bit of reduction, but with some beautiful red fruit on the nose here. This is definitely a wine with a slightly heftier composition on the nose. That shows on the palate, with a slight bit of burnt rubber, but the overall fruit composition in this wine is outstanding. It’s so cheerful and bright, and the red berries are absolutely compelling. I think at the end of the day, this is a wine that needs more time resolve. My 9th, group’s 4th.
