July 18, 2014 - Wound up very tight, bright lemon fruit with an intense minerality. Great core, just not expressing it yet.

July 15, 2014 - This was stunning and wonderfully dichotomous, as richly textured, deep citrus fruit battled searing acidity and vibrant minerals for one's attention. Complexities abound with underlying dew laden cut grass, fresh green herbs, grapefruit rind, and honeysuckle. An excellent, lengthy, and tightly wound finish bodes well for the cellar. April 6, 2014 - Tart. Sweat. Typical Vatan oily texture. Citrus notes. Well balanced. Something a bit off-putting in the flavor profile, but enjoyable overall.

April 2, 2014 - I found this wine bizarre. One professional reviewer mentioned chicken broth. One reviewer here mentions fennel and spring onion. I agree with all of that. And I would add: bitter almonds. This is one of the most bitter wines I've ever tasted.
I found this combination unpleasant. Interesting, but unpleasant. So much so that I would think my bottle is flawed but for the tasting notes of others. This tastes nothing like any sauvignon blanc I have ever tasted.
Thus, I must respectfully dissent from the high reviews.
March 25, 2014 - Vatan and Clos Rougeard Dinner (Ripple DC): The 2011 is a youthful wine that is drinking very well for a young Vatan. The nose is more herbal than grassy with the typical flinty notes. Hints of fennel and even spring onion emerge on the palate. The finish is mineral and while not as long as the 2008 very pleasurable. The 2011 can easily develop in the bottle but I would consider more of a midterm ager than say the rich 2005 and the stony 2008.1 person found this helpful Comment
