December 5, 2014 - Yep, it's really drinking well right now! (Note: see previous tasting note)
November 27, 2014 - Decanted for 1 hour which was a mistake as wine didn't start to perform for 24 hours. Strong plum and dark fruit on the nose with added notes of dark cherry on entry. Enjoyable as mid palate seemed to blossom in flavor (as a merlot should) and a finish which lasted 15-20 seconds.
Would recommed if exercising 4-5 years of storage as acidity and tannins are very strong and as mentioned above, took 24 hours to "start to mellow". You can find better merlots on the market for a fraction of the cost. (92)
November 14, 2014 - The 2010 Merlot needs another year or two for the tannins to further soften and develop onto a finally balanced gem... however, one will not be disappointed drinking now. Explosive, long, full, mouth watering finish.
November 12, 2014 - Very drinkable, well structured and well balanced...but I should leave the rest for a while longer.
October 12, 2014 - Second Sunday Group: 2010 California Merlot (Our house): Cherry, chocolate, plum and dark fruit notes. Medium tannins with dark fruit, spice and vanilla qualities. A bit more angular than the other wines.
My #8, Domino's #2
Group #4, 44 pts
October 10, 2014 - Off the list at River Wildlife in Kohler.
October 7, 2014 - This is as sure a bet as I've found in merlot, and this year is no different. Wonderfully rich and full, with a smooth first sip and a long finish. Pop and pour, got better though after 30.
September 26, 2014 - Just what you're hoping for from a Shafer/Napa Merlot. Big ripe fruit that lingers. Love the mouth feel
September 24, 2014 - Rich and nice balance, mouth coating.
August 21, 2014 - Unctuous, with rich full fruit.
