December 14, 2019 - No formal notes. This was lovely, but needed decanting and time to breathe. Some lift on opening, then very perfumed, floral, a touch raisiny, eventually just lovely sweet and intense. Still slightly tannic, with a good freshness, red fruit on the palate, some secondary notes, very good structure. Enjoyable now and no hurry at all.

March 9, 2019 - This bottle was little tannic and woody at first, but it quickly calmed down and showed very well, with ripe red fruit, floral and mineral notes, ample acidity and a lingering finish. Still fresh and vibrant and has a long life ahead of it. Terrific wine.

March 30, 2018 - Red, not very drveloped

Red fruit expression on the nose with licquerice and some leather as well.

Medium bodied, good fruit and mouthfill, medium bodied for a Barolo.

A pleasant wine, probably at ITS peak right now.

September 22, 2017 - This is in a great window now. Deep, rich and with great balance (acidity not as high as expected). Fantastic with steak. Not as much balsamic or tar as expected. Some nice hints of herb, and tough or orange peel. No hurry, but no reason to wait either. 93pts. Drink now-2025

November 18, 2016 - Wow. Brief note from memory, but this was awesome. Super youthful fruit, and the structure integrated perfectly. We actually decanted this to help it open, and the color was dark and purplish like the fruit which was deep and polished. The Runcot is indeed a special wine. Must have been fearsome in youth, and lots left in the tank for this one. Thanks mike!

March 31, 2013 - Drunk over Easter lunch after double-decanting to remove some sediment.
Finished the bottle in the evening.
Medium-deep garnet, starts bricking on the rims.
Nose: spicy, leather, nutmeg, but also some floral hints.
Palate: beautifully balanced, full-bodied, still with lively red fruit (cherries). Good acidity and tannins very well integrated. Lovely, and went very well with risotto and lamb racks.

January 1, 2013 - Excellent timing now. Wait for 15 minutes and it gets very elegant.

October 9, 2012 - Hanging with dontime and pdhall (Sophia, Houston): Wonderful nose of sour cherry, asphalt, rose petals, leather, and rich dark fuit. On the palate, rich, full, yet completely weightless with sour cherry, dark fruits, earth, leather, and tar. Finishes with substantial grip and balance. This was helped by food.

November 10, 2010 - I found some old written tasting notes from my first trip to Piemonte in 2010… Tasted at the winery. This is a more modern style wine than the other single vineyard crus. Aged in French barriques, rather than botti. Earthy, fruity nose. Quite forward and smooth, balanced but the oak is noticeable. Cherry, chocolate, spice on a nicely layered palate. Hard not to like this.
