February 5, 2022 - I decanted this wine about 60 minutes I could of decanted it longer. Beautiful nose. I could smell the wine 12 inches away The wine has easily another 5 years plus. Not at its prime yet. However, it is drinking great. Silky approach with rounded tannins Certainly a presence of high alcohol Long finish. Lovely wine

July 27, 2021 - FW surf and turf (FW): Tasted in fW, flat, boring, probably needed more patience with it but too many other bottles to try.

June 4, 2021 - Ok…needs 3 hours of air …tartness blows off and it comes into balance . Subtle cherries , pencil lead, spice, leather edge ….

September 7, 2020 - Decant for 3 hours, wonderful big fruit, but not a fruit bomb. Clean long finish...

August 14, 2020 - A little closed on the nose but chocolate and earthy, chocolate and licorice on first sip, candied red cherry, a hint of cracked pepper and a little heat on the back. Full bodied and strong tannins with a never ending finish.

July 1, 2020 - Dad's Birthday (The Ranch, WI): Very dark, purple-red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 3 hours. Had this at the ranch for my Dad's birthday under less than optimal conditions with high heat and humdity. This had gotten way to warm despite being on ice packs and was flabby and unbalanced on pouring. After a good bit of time chilling this down we had a completely different wine. This was quite similar to past experiences and I would completely disagree with a recent comment that suggests this wine is past the drinking window. This is a big wine, there's a ton of rich black extracted fruits, blackberry, black currants, plum, graphite, a soft velvety texture with full body and plush tannins. Not my go to style by any means, but it works well with big bold steaks. As always, serving temp is important and it is critical with a wine like this to keep it in balance as tonight clearly demonstrated.

January 26, 2020 - The last Altamura cab I tasted was 10 years ago - a 1999 Altamura cabernet. That wine was spectacular. It is still one of my benchmark wines! This wine, the 2009, was good but nowhere near the spectacular of the 1999. The wine was full of rich chocolate and dark berry flavors, but it just did not elicit a "Wow!" reaction. My sense was that it is just slightly past its prime. Oh well. Next year we will open the 2010!
