November 10, 2016 - Brilliant effort after the herbaceous 2010. Excellent and drinking very well now (decent or leave open for an hour). Many years of maturation left.

October 21, 2016 - sophmoric and past its prime. Worth $20, not $40.

October 2, 2016 - Brick red with medium plus to high optical density. Hugely intense nose, with bramble, dark fruit (plum, blackberry, cassis) and American oak character of toasted coconut and toffee, along with some aromatic florals for lift. Full body and medium acidity on the palate with a round, dense texture that stops just short of jammy, but does give a sense of concentration. Tannins are ripe but structured, providing a clean and elegant framework. Flavours of toffee coated dark fruit on the attack, with some aromatic compounds and juniper filling in toward midpalate. Fairly straight-forward, but certainly delicious. The finish shows good length, with roasted fruits and savory black pepper. Easy to drink wine, with nice balance and styled in a tasteful, elegant profile. Shows medium complexity, and drinks well now, with freshness and pizzaz. A great California Zin!

September 30, 2016 - Jammy, briary, grand, imposing. Not subtle, full on. At its peak. A smasher.
