March 28, 2015 - It is that time of year where more than 40,000 7s’ fans descend upon Hong Kong with adrenaline pumping, wallets wide open, gullets prepared for gulping and tummies poised for aching. Yes, the Hong Kong (Rugby) Sevens started on Friday and ends on Sunday. Many people start partying on the previous Monday. The wild enthusiasts go 24/7 while the more subdued, yet still gonzo, seek to survive the 24/3. I put (Rugby) in brackets because 15 players per side is “proper” Rugby. Frankly, I find the game a bit difficult to watch as 30 players on the pitch results in too many Bangkok traffic jams. Equally, I did not grow-up with the sport and have not dedicated the time to learning the nuances. 7s, on the other hand, is like basketball on a football field where speed, quickness, strength, passing/catching skills and a fine blend between teamwork and one-on-one machismo is all wrapped into an electrifying 7 minutes per half of 14 elite athletes busting their humps to score a try.
Magic!!! Having said that, as an old man, I prefer sitting in the air conditioning with an 84" screen TV, great food and excellent wine.
We made six small cheese sandwiches with rosemary flavoured buns from Japan. The cheese was Comte (36 months) and Tasmanian Brie. Each one had a different flavour added, i.e. crab meat, curry powder, turmeric, etc. Yummy!!! We washed it down with a 2011 Kistler Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard, which is a favourite, that has the structure, power and freshness to match with almost anything. Greenish/yellow on the eye, hints of citrus/oak/vanilla on the nose and fresh acidity with a smooth slightly toasted finish is a perfect way to start an afternoon. We are Kistler fans through-and-through!!!

February 13, 2015 - I don't drink a lot of white wines and hadn't opened a Kistler Chard in a while. I think they have changed their profile a bit, less oak than previous years. Not bone dry, as there was some sweetness. Notes of apricot, and other stone fruits. Really liked it.

December 6, 2014 - Wonderful chard. Gets better and better with air. Rich but the vintage adds a great element of freshness and restraint.
