January 22, 2015 - Somewhat oxidized, but still showing some coconut oak, botrytis, and apple underneath a veneer of tired bleh.

January 19, 2015 - Not especially good, but still quite interesting in the way it was not good. The cork fell into the bottle before I could remove it, so I decanted this. It poured a deep gold in color. And while this was over the hill and with a touch of cidery/nutty oxidation (I suspect poor storage), it wasn't oxidized in the way younger premoxed wines are, where they are short and bitter and almost rancid. Instead this was very vanilla/creme bruleeish, soft and rich with cooked apple that was a touch cidery, good acidity, not especially mineral. Perfectly drinkable but far from transcendent, hot hitting the heights I'd hoped for.

December 20, 2014 - From a nice looking bottle with a 2.5 cm fill, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed vanilla, lemons, apples, and a hint of lychee nut.

This wine was quite tight at first and it slowly got better and better over the course of 6 hours. In the mouth it was ripe, had a lot of glycerine, and was beautifully balanced. However, the acidity was quite firm and the lemon flavors dominated in the mouth. Not surprisingly it had great length.

As with other vintages of this wine, this is built for the long term. Wile it can be drunk now with extended aeration, it will improve in 5-10 years. My guess is it will pick up a point or two.

November 22, 2014 - From a bottle with a 3.5 cm fill, this wine had deep yellow center and clear rims. This wine took 4+ hours to develop. The medium- intensity nose showed citrus, custard, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was rich with substantial acidity and excellent length. While attractive, this bottle still seemed a little tight.

I have a fair amount of experience with this wine and it certainly has amazing longevity. My guess is that it is just coming into its zone. If you want to open a bottle now, give it at least 4 hours in a decanter. It is likely to pick up a couple points in 5+ years.

July 3, 2014 - This an easy one to get blind. Color= medium yellow, looks about 5-8 years old.
Gorgeous fragrant aroma. Shalimar perfume, baby powder, pear, hint of apple and minerals. Perfect harmony. A little extra kick of flavor on the finish. Overall, rather delicate but flavorful. Definitely high end Puligny Montrachet from the likes of Domaine Levlaive or Sauzet such as Bienvenue Batard Monrachet or even Chevalier Montrachet. Perfectly clean, no sign of oxidation.
What? The label says it's 1990 Bonneau de Martray Corton Charlemagne. Impossible but it's true. White burgundy before the pox can age very well.
