June 22, 2016 - This was made with a good bit of Malbec in it, to complete this wine in a more difficult year. As a result, the edges needed time to soften and intermingle with the merlot. After about 30 minutes of air, this wine rounded into form and met expectations for a Shafer wine. Well done in a difficult year.

May 28, 2016 - PnP and drank over two days. Nose is cedar lined closet and dried fruit. Palate was very rich with chocolate cake and vanilla spice. Plum and strawberry jam along with slight cedar, cigar box. This was warm and more rich than I expected. Very layered and deep with noticeable tannins. Not quite the length and complexity of a Shafer Cab but a very enjoyable merlot for a cab fan.

May 22, 2016 - Good but less so than I had anticipated. Cherry, soft, tobacco, Woody. Went well with grilled ribeye.

April 11, 2016 - Really nice merlot. Very subtle smooth wine. Paired very nicely with a grilled ribeye.

February 12, 2016 - Had it in The Wine Cellar in the Rio. The bottle was opened for a day. Nose had black currant, cinnamon, violets and sweet vanilla. Palate had that napa ripeness and strength with precision which made shafer so special. More intense and refined than the duckhorn merlot 2012.
