June 1, 2015 - Good wine. May not be a traditional merlot. The 2011 being a difficult vintage, wine had to be blended with a higher percentage of Can sauv, cab franc. It shows on the wine. Even though this may not be a picture perfect merlot, it still is a good wine. Lovely nose, has depth, fuller bodied. Opened up after decanting for an 1 hour. Should have given a couple of hours more though to open up. Enjoyed it very much.

May 30, 2015 - Wow, what a gorgeous Merlot. On the nose, there's jammy, juicy black cherry with subtle hints of bell pepper and peppercorn. It also has a beautiful layer of vanilla bean and woodsy must and dust-- like stepping into an old wooden library built of cedar walls and furnished with aged leather furniture. It's such an elegant and sophisticated merlot. It is a big red, with 15% alcohol, but it doesn't feel so "hot" or overbearing. It does have muscular structure and many layers. I love it!

April 24, 2015 - Shafer is my go-to for a good bottle of red. While partial to Relentless and One Point Five, I've been enjoying their Merlots more recently as well. The 2011 is a big, brawny red, but not overpowering. Shafer has been making good Merlots for years, and 2011 is no different. Highly recommended, especially for the Sideways snobs that think Merlot isn't worth their time.

April 12, 2015 - musty nose. Mocha, cassis like an old fahioned Bordeaux, Lght Mustiness on palate perhaps corked but not objectional

March 20, 2015 - From 37.5cl. Glossy, oaky, ripe dark fruit, smoke, spices on the nose. On the palate quite big and a little blunt, powerful, oak, good fruit, dark chocolate, grippy, slightly drying. A bit simple and heavy, but well made. Good length. 87-89
