Community Tasting Notes 4

May 16, 2011 - Mid straw, still a touch of green. Fresh, mineral and sea-salt nose. Similar on attack, dense but mineral with a long finish and some bite, and proudly sporting a nose of iodine. Very mineral and marine, rounding out a touch on the mid-palate with a touch of honeyed fruit, but mainly grippy Chablis. A slight lack of intensity and persistence on the finish, but a very good and enjoyable wine. ****

March 2, 2008 - Rich golden colour, subtle nose, citrus tastes gone, more canteloupe, clean and fresh.

December 28, 2006 - Pale. Very clean nose, just the faintest hit of mineral, then with air, some citrus and chalk. Very backward still. Linear, lime-dominated clean fruit, mineraly and above all, chalky. Hardly evolved from tasting at the Domaine, pre-purchase, almost 4 years ago. Excellent potential, but so so young. If I'd been a little more organised and bothered to read my previous note I would have saved for a few years before opening. Very intense and lingering though. Only taken a third of the bottle - will leave the remnainder untilo tomorrow to see how it evolves.

Next day: hardly any more evolved. still taut and steely with dominant chalky notes. At 8 years, still many years off maturity. Not nearly as giving as the previous bottle. Lovely wine though and impressive stuff.

April 1, 2006 - A relatively unevolved pale mid yellow colour. Some honeyed notes on the nose opening out to slightly minerally, chalky scents. Clean attack, quite full and concentrated, minerally and slightly lime-tinged still. Chalk comes through on the palate. Very elegant, persistent and long. Obvious GC quality. Just starting to think about turning from pure minerality to something with slightly more honey to the fruit. Classic chablis rather than an oaky blockbuster. Drinking nicely now but absolutely no hurry. Given some recent concerns about the vintage, a relief to discover this is performing as one would hope.
