February 2, 2017 - Deep violet color, perfumed nose, dark blue and purple fruit, spice, and some tobacco on finish. Paired very well with pasta. Drinking well now and probably has a couple of years left.
May 8, 2016 - Sweet, raisin, black cherry, leathery tannins. Very port-like. Consistent with past notes.. Time to drink up!
December 26, 2015 - Burgundy color with a slight tinge of brown on the edge. The nose has leather, stewed blackberry, and tobacco leaf. Palate follows with more of the same, boysenberry, but the sugar content is quite high. Slight pepper on the medium plus finish. I enjoy a wine of this complexity and palpable quality. Could probably hold for several more years based on sugar alone
March 9, 2015 - Jammy, rich wine. Cabernet pretending to be a Zinfandel. High alcohol, plum, blackberry - almost at a stewed level. Medium + finish with alcohol heat
January 6, 2015 - Still one of my favorite wines ever. Rich and succulent, with soft tannins and smooth full body. Great the first night with lamb and italian sausage ragu. Just as good the next night before dinner.
December 20, 2014 - Tasting consistent with my 12/22/2013 notes. Still riding high, very fresh and lively yet with a nice depth that pairs well with meat or a nice marinara sauce. Only one bottle of the '09 left in my cellar... the '10 is good but not as juicy as the '09. This is one I'll be thinking about for many years.
November 17, 2014 - Outstanding wine! It is steak ready. I really enjoyed the lushness of the wine. Congrats to the Altamura team for creating a unique wine and a difficult varietal to make in California. Cheers!
October 28, 2014 - I've served this wine with traditional Amatriciana, and with less traditional red sauces. It's a crowd pleaser every time. I think it's one of the best I've had at its price point.
September 11, 2014 - Extremely drinkable and lush. Tastes great with or without food.
July 19, 2014 - Total novice here but thought this was one of the best wines I've had--not just because of how unique it is, although that's part of it. Incredibly smooth and rich at the same time. Tasted in my friend's wine locker at 55 degrees and without much breathing, and it was fantastic. Going to get a case if I can find it . . .
