Community Tasting Notes 5

February 17, 2022 - Bright copper color. Absolutely breathtaking on the nose, and very difficult to describe. The fruit aromas are very natural and fresh, like just-ripe raspberries and strawberries. But more dominant are the floral and herbal/woodsy notes, which make it like sticking your nose into a garden in a glass, on a warm summer day. there's earth and leaves and tree bark and all kinds of blooming flowers, as well as a spicy, polleny aspect that would strike fear in the heart of an allergic. On top of that, a yeasty note that mingles with the fruit in a similar way as in a lambic beer. But then there is something savory as well that I'm having a hard time pinning down. The way it intertwines with the sweetness of the fruit makes me think of something like grilled pineapple on a burger, or Hawaiian pizza. And then a crowning note of something old and dusty and rich, like an ancient leather-bound book. It's really a spectacular and exhilarating bouquet.

It's every bit as good on the palate, if not better. The juiciness of the bruit is a delicious shock, backed up with lots of refreshing acidity—like the freshest just-ripe strawberries and the juiciest tangerine. But again, the fruit is just the tip of the iceberg, and is lifted by heady, perfumed flavors of rosewater, thyme, and who knows what other flowers and herbs, which waft up the nose after you swallow each mouthful and seem to hang in the air before you. And then it gains depth from the earthy, yeasty flavors and the aged vinousness. The overall intensity of flavor in this wine is really just dumbfounding. Endless finish.

I don't have much experience with these wines, so I don't know how this was when it was younger and how much of my experience is due to the bottle's age. But this is an absolutely heart-stopping wine, and I will be seeking out more from Radikon—for drinking early, late, and in between.

September 15, 2014 - Wow, this was the most enjoyable wine I’ve had in a while. Wild Strawberry dominates the palate, but there is some nice acidity and tea favors and the finish has some smoky char. This also reminds me of a Flemish sour ale because there is a nice yeasty flavor and a nice dose of acid. I need to find some more orange wines.

This drank best from a Bordeaux glass (maybe try a Pinot glass next time?). This was a great match with Roast Chicken, but it seems very food friendly.

March 22, 2014 - oransjevin fra Friuli-Venezia Giulia, grensa til Slovenia, nydelig åpen, typeriktig duft, bruksområde omtrent som rosé, men mer struktur og snerp. Flott matvin.

February 8, 2014 - Rootstock 2014: Funky with meat and earth. Has good cut through acidity and medium length.

December 29, 2013 - Beyond delicous. Nutty and perfumed and soft but direct and mouthwatering. If all pg tasted like this, I would happily tell people that I'm a devout pinot grigio drinker.
