March 23, 2024 - Still fresh & youthful. Perfect. Great fill. Still peaking.
Bramble, nicely, fresh fruits of; blackberries, creamy, black raspberries, black plum, plum, dark cherries, hints of blueberries, poached to dry strawberries. Lead pencil for days, dry tobacco, used leather, liquid herbaceous notes, volcanic & limestone marl & grey clay, eucalyptus/pine tar, black licorice, dark spice, touch of black pepper, mushroom, light baking spices, dry top soil, dry river stone, dry stem, well done toast, dry & withering; dark, red, some blue florals framed in lavender & violets, perfect acidity and extremely well; balanced, structured, tensioned, balanced, smarty polished finish that last several minutes finish. WOTN!
It’s just the left side of the bell curve. Stored correctly it has another 10 plus years of good drinking.
Robert Parker launched his career calling this vintage correctly upon release when others were not.
December 2, 2023 - Cigar box, pencil lead. Still in it’s prime. Amazing wine. Paired with ribeye and filet mignon
December 10, 2022 - Youthful and powerful. More monolithic than tbe gran vin and closer to maturity but still a long way to go I would think. Blackcurrant and tobacco dominate. Deelish. Some tasters thought the bottle was a bit bretty, but I didn’t pick up on it myself.
May 8, 2020 - Deep ruby colour as opposed to my expected garnet.
On the nose, liquorice, cassis, savoury and slightly gamey. We let it breathe in the bottle for an hour, palate was similar to nose and packed with power, more blackcurrant and cassis than leather and tobacco.
A rather bold wine and drinking very well at the moment, however, I personally think it was lacking some finesse.
Traditional Pauillac, drink now.
January 19, 2020 - Attractive.
May 20, 2019 - Much stronger than expected. Certainly not '82 Latour, lacks the same depth and complexity, but this is very good.
September 29, 2017 - Amazing Bordeaux with lovely balance.
January 17, 2017 - Drinking this side by side with the 75 made for an interesting exercise. No doubt a richer, riper wine with more life left in it. However, this had less of the classic Latour aromatic profile. Would it have developed with more decanting? Perhaps so. Perhaps it will come with more time. The aromatic profile was darker than the 75 with blackcurrant and plum, lovely leather, mineral, and smoke notes. Round palate, long finish. Nicely polished. Excellent with the yak shortrib and Perigord truffle agnolotti. I found the 75 more pleasing to the frontal lobe and the 82 more pleasing to the palate.
January 16, 2017 - Annual Yak and Truffle Dinner; 1/15/2017-1/16/2017 (Newbury, NH): Nose: Cassis, Blackberry, Graphite and cool floral earth with some underlying dried tobacco and spice notes. Very expressive of Pauillac on the nose. Palate: Black fruit up front with a nice polished texture and fine tanins. Opens to show a fleshy wine with streaks of mineral, tobacco and spice. Finish: Quite penetrating on the finish with more cassis, floral notes, ink and cedar.
This was an outstanding second wine with all the marks of a quality Pauillac. Makes the 1st wine very enticing to try.
December 2, 2016 - Bordeaux: Second wines in great vintages. (Valuas): Beautiful and classical bouquet with barnyard, mature cassis, caramel, cedar, earth, autumn etc. Same on the palate. Mature, rustic, earthy, cedar, tobacco, mushrooms, still juicy mature cassis and good acidity. Overall a truly great wine. At first I scored the wine 93/94, but after several hours of air time it had gained in subtlety and complexity, so in the end I score the wine 96. What a treat!
