2011 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Terroir

Community Tasting Notes 6
August 6, 2014 - Lots of blue and black fruit. Very pronounced on the nose. A big step up from the classic if you will. This is the terroir series. Lots of fininsse here, good stuff.
June 11, 2014 - Limestone, limestone, limestone is the idea here. Meaning soil type is more important than altitude. Savory, soy, mineral, with definition. Plays hard at $16.

March 22, 2014 - Tastes like a cheap Aussie fruitbomb! Any supposed "terroir" is completely overwhelmed by the in-your-face candied fruit. Yuck!

March 18, 2014 - A nose of dark fruit and some spice, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied Malbec, with black cherry, plum, chocolate, some cedar and spice on finish, an easy drinker. www.winelx.com
February 13, 2014 - So terroir driven Malbec? Is it possible?
So since the middle of the last decade the model has changed, focusing more on soil types, working with a Chilean agronomist, more schist and limestone, and now, for the last three vintages, backing off wood -- no new wood, no barriques on any of the wines.
So here all younger vines, black fruited for sure but delicious all the same. Works it out with some gumption at $16.99.
