April 28, 2020 - Bought 6b for 15/b from a local independent shop about 22 years ago; this is #2. Solid, tight cork, stained barely above bottom. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Purple with hint of amber edge in the decanter; fragrant mature blackcurrant, some herbaceousness; more Bordeaux-like, perhaps some subtle eucalyptus, good mouthfeel; some persistence. Delicious, glad I have more (but concerned that some labels are coming off, and the vintage is not on the cork). Vintage falls between Mandela's release from prison ('90) and election as president ('94). Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price.

June 9, 2007 - Meerlust Rubicon Vertical (Caldesi, London): A funky, sweaty nose with prunes and cheese, feeling a tiny bit maderised. It feels simple and direct on the palate. There are some green, almost vegetal flavours. I suspect there's some kind of fault with this, but goodness knows what. If it isn't faulty, then it's distinctly unimpressive.
