June 18, 2014 - Nice light clear yellow. Lifted aromas. A little softer than many (malolactic? less oak), but still a little hot. Likely to complement the right meal--game birds or pasta with rabbit ragu come to mind.

May 31, 2014 - Agree with kmforster below. I love shafer and I like the no ML but the alcohol is high and the RS is way too high. I liked the 2011 way better. The 2012 has nice body but the sweetness overwhelms. Serve very cold to avoid. Still a better chard than 99% of CA chards.

May 20, 2014 - First taste of the Red Shoulder from this vintage. 75% new french oak, 25% stainless. 14.9% alcohol well integrated. Banana colored. Aromas of mineral, spice, peach and apricot. Palate includes all the above plus notes of kiwi and honeydew melon. Finish lingers with a spicy aftertaste. Quite elegant and old world in character, notwithstanding the alcohol.

May 8, 2014 - Winery tasting. Tropical notes with pineapple and citrus. Subtle oak notes well integrated with a balanced finish. This is my wheelhouse. 93+.

May 8, 2014 - Tasting at Shafer (Shafer Vineyards): Light yellow color with aromas of banana and tropical fruit turning to lemon zest and honeysuckle. Lovely fruit and balance of wood on the palate- subtle coconut tones along with apple, stone and floral notes. Finishes very well; balanced, with nice underlying acidity. Approximately 20-25% is aged in stainless.

April 26, 2014 - Pleasant, but not up to usual standards for this wine. A bit thin and lacking in grip and complexity. Not worth the money.
