February 9, 2024 - Wonderful nose of earth and leather. Palate of leather, dried cherry, tobacco, spice. A hint of pepper. Loooong finish. Maybe 60 seconds. Much better than last bottle which may have been flawed or stored improperly. This is terrific!
December 29, 2023 - Stewed prune on the nose. Lighter sweeter taste on the palate. Some leather and hint of tart red cherry. Decent, not great.
October 19, 2023 - Be sure to let it air, the last glass was the best
March 4, 2023 - Perfect balanced.
But drink the bottle within 3 hours.
December 27, 2022 - Second bottle, this one for xmas evening. Just as impressive as the bottle we shared together a month earlier for Thanksgiving. Simply elegant and wonderfully aged.
November 25, 2022 - Opened 4 hours before Thanksgiving dinner. Family very much enjoyed it. I found it to be perhaps slightly past its prime, with the fruit and tannins (not very "grippy") having faded a bit. Still, an aged Brunello from a classic producer is almost always a great experience. Will drink the remaining bottle soon, with a '10 magnum laying down for future comparison.
September 22, 2022 - Excellent. Hadn’t given it much thought, just grabbed for dinner with my daughters. Possibly last bottle according to CT, bought on release, but I feel like I saw another in the cellar when I grabbed this. Anyway, at 21, it’s in a prime window - still grabs your attention up front but had the smoothness and flavors of a middle age wine. Nose still exuberant but at the back end has sweet balsamic and the palate still tart and juicy but shows loamy chocolate cherry on the finish. Absolutely worth drinking but can go a few years too (wouldn’t push past maybe 2030? Ymmv).
August 13, 2022 - Pop & Pour
June 24, 2022 - BBR Long Luncheon, Napoleon cellars. Did not disappoint. Energetic and lively. Sour cherry, clove, balsam and sweet spices. Fleshy palate with lingering finish. Years ahead of it.
June 3, 2022 - An unfortunate end to what was a fantastic wine. I've had this in the cellar for about 15 years. Previous bottles were fantastic and I was holding on to this for a special night. Well, it was a particularly difficult week at work and this was just calling out. Unfortunately, instead of being a fantastic end to the week, it followed suit of the past 4 days. Way past it's prime. Dark brownish garnet with a tan rim. Nose of stewed dark fruit, raisins, leather and petrol. Short finish and still has some tannic backbone. This was consumed over 4hrs, and unfortunately didn't improve with air. Disappointing ending for this wine. Score Withheld
