April 21, 2021 - This is a beauty in its prime drinking window. Extremely floral, perfumed nose of cherry blossoms, eucalyptus, and hints of green peppers. The palate is medium-full, round, silky, and textured, bringing bright cherries and brambly blackberries with savory notes of soy, tobacco, and dark chocolate into a refined and elegant finish. Only nit is exessive oak and a touch of heat on the finish. Drink 2021-2024. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.

January 8, 2017 - Drinking well, but will probably benefit from another year or two.

September 23, 2016 - Beautiful dark purple color. Rustic woody nose, but, also, a hint of alcohol. On entry lots of dried fruit flavor—raisins and prunes, but without the sweetness. Some of that road tar sensation. This, to me, brings in complexity after the fruity entry. Pretty serious unresolved tannins. I don’t discount a wine just because of tannin. Tannin is a good thing. I think that there is sufficient tartness here to suggest that this wine can benefit from additional years in the bottle. I think the CT drinking window for this wine is too conservative.

July 3, 2016 - Air...lots of air. Opened and first tasted like alcoholic leaves. Tough vintage. After double aeration and almost 2 hours in decanter, it had opened. The vegetal component had softened but was still there. Some decent fruit but little complexity. Was good with NY strip off my grill. Now at 4 hours, the fruit has almost disappeared. Nothing like the '05 which is still rockin'.

February 11, 2016 - Great finesse - has intensity without being overbearing. Somewhat Cabernet Sauvignonesque if I can coin a phrase. I think the drink window is here. Recommend decanting or at least letting it breath for an hour before enjoying. If not, it appears almost a bit thin but with air it shows its true colors.
