January 14, 2024 - This bottle was also orange-tinged, but we didn't think it "flawed" as with previous tastings. Bottle variation? The wine worked beautifully to complement a pork and kraut dinner, with the spice and honeyed nature offsetting the main course perfectly and the acidity providing a nice balance. Tartrates in the glass at the end. One more bottle left.

August 9, 2023 - Rich caramel color and tartaric crystals on the cork.
It has apricot, toasted almond and hints of lychee and rose, and baked pear.
    Not a subtle wine.
    Maturing well.

May 5, 2023 - A great showing on this one tonight, perfect cork, dark gold color all the classic ZH Gewurtz flavors and aromas come at you fast and strong. This is not shy and coats the mouth with satisfying oily texture that is counter buffered by fantastic acidity. There is an slight bitter almond note on the finish that could detract fro some but did not bother me. Some slight residual sugar is noted keeping it from being bone dry which is quite nice. Fantastic food match with Jean Luc's Alsatian onion tart.

September 10, 2022 - Drinking well. HAs fully matured and this can be considered a lovely wine for dessert.

July 28, 2020 - FWS Review: Shows it's age, but still drinking well. Gold in color. Nose is lychee and roses, with some white pepper coming through as well.

On the palate the acidity is moderate, which is way higher than I expected. Full body with a hint of RS. Not a sweet wine, but also not completely dry. This is a bold, big in your face wine...

September 28, 2019 - Second bottle to replace the first. This one was flawed, too. Orange, not deep yellow.

September 26, 2019 - Sadly, this bottle had oxidized. Deep orange color. Most apparent in the nose. But the palate was off.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about three hours.

Gold to amber color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of apricot, kumquat, lychee and honeysuckle. Flavors of apricot, kumquat and lemon. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink now.

February 13, 2019 - Decanted at 1862. Gorgeous golden orange in the glass, smooth and delicious apricots, perfect with foie gras appetizer. My WOTN.

January 19, 2019 - Continued development since our last bottle a year ago. Amber with a hint of red, some tartrates on the cork - not unusual for an Alsace of this age. Becoming more concentrated. Unctuous, rich in the mouth. Honeyed fruit, especially peach, and a panoply of spices are perfectly balanced by an underpinning of acidity that isn't overtly apparent, but that cleanses and leads to a lingering finish. Simply delightful. Glad to have seven more bottles!
