November 21, 2016 - 375 purchased from winery, the cork was very crumbly (surprising) but the wine itself was in excellent shape. The tannic structure was more resolved than a young MB, but the flavor profile did not indicate much development. The herbaceous oak flavors were readily apparent with a real minty/eucalyptus streak running through (not really dill though). Great acid and lots of fruit, went very well with my birthday steak.

October 1, 2016 - Tasted at the winery in Santa Cruz mountains. Extracted from the bottle using a coravin; in a flight with the '13 and '03. Wow this nose has leather and barnyard funk, the most fragrant of the wines we've tasted today at Ridge. Full mouthfeel, red fruit and earthy forest floor dominate, along with fine tannins in the finish. Looks like there is no rush to open these, they should be fine for at least five, maybe more years, at peak. My favorite of the tastings today. I expect this to be improved by decanting.

September 23, 2016 - blackberries, mushroom, dirty, acidity, asian tea, little past it's prime. B/B+

September 12, 2016 - Tasted at the winery...opaque garnet color. Immensely fragrant and rich nose with fine shoe leather, chocolate and blackberry prominent. On the palate I got tar, blackberry, blueberry, cedar and a rich long aftertaste. Long, lovely, precise and well structured, this is drinking wonderfully now...Don't forget to double decant and let it breathe plenty!

(Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello) A similarly intensely coloured hue. Very backward on the nose, which still shows awkward aromas of toffee-edge oak. The palate is simply massive, with a dense structure of tannin and acidity, and yet is silkily textured. There is a ton of fruit. This impressive wine needs a good five or ten years further bottle maturation before I would touch another.
