March 27, 2024 - Still drinking very well. Full of fruit, perfect balance of sugar/acids/tannin. Very food friendly.
November 25, 2021 - Sourced from the Lewis vineyard planted in 1903. Normally a $60 bottle. Picked at 26.2 brix on September 17th. Aged for 2 years in American oak. 15.6% alcohol. Not decanted. Rich purple color. Spicy black fruit notes with pepper and sweet currant notes. Firm tannins. 87 points.
April 9, 2021 - Very drinkable. Big black fruits with a vanilla finish. Not spicy. Minor amount of tannin noticed
February 2, 2021 - Decanted and consumed over six hours. Best glass was the last.
Cloudy burgundy in color, full bodied
Lots of oak on the nose. Baking spice.Dusty nose as well.
Much too much oak on the first glass, but by the last, it had balanced out with the fruit and spices. (Vanilla and cloves) Tannin has largely dissipated. Medium plus finish. I quite liked my last two glasses. Well balanced. Still a very big wine. Quite tasty with spicy chicken wings.
July 20, 2020 - Ripe black cherry with a very savory, high-alcohol finish. More suitable with bbq than filets.
May 6, 2019 - Wine Institute of California & Perswijn (Amsterdam): Here the modest sweetness shows the ripeness; the wine stays 2 years in American wood and than 2 years in the cellar. There is a super friendly spiciness combined with minerals; the concentration of the wine continues in the balanced aftertaste; lovely stuff.
February 5, 2019 - Color - Opaque garnet
Aromas - Kirsch, licorice, and peppery spice with appealing hints of menthol and floral notes
Body - Full-bodied with a supple texture and medium-acidity
Taste - Macerated black cherries, black raspberry, licorice, vanilla, clove and pepper spice
Finish - Medium finish
Fruit sourced from the Lewis vineyard planted in 1903. The vines are “head-trained, spur-pruned”, where the vines have a central trunk with arms growing in all different directions. This goblet shape allows for uniform sun exposure and a distribution of grape bunches ideal for ripening. 15.6% abv | SRP - $60
January 31, 2019 - This showed strong varietal character, with pepper, sap, and savory notes. Well structured, impressive depth and balance, layered finish.
February 27, 2018 - LangeTwins Winery (Lange Twins Winery): Well made wine in the ripe high alcohol style. Not my favorite style but this wine is a very good execution. Developed and ready to drink, don't cellar past two years.
