Community Tasting Notes 3

March 26, 2013 - Decanted for 4 hours and it was still tight. Left a glass for 24 hours later. Beautiful nose just like last time but the palate was locked. We'll see.

March 9, 2013 - Similar to last bottle: lighter ruby color, nose of schist and linear black raspberry and mulberry. Palate was shot full of iron and mineral, with layers of slightly sour cherry, raspberry, and licorice apparent. Stony finish. Was trying to cleanse my palate after an oak-laden Morey St. Denis from another producer earlier in the evening, and this surely did the job.

Well, it is now 48 hours later. I am sampling the remainder of the bottle and it is completely different. The nose is pumping briary flowers, almost searing raspberry scents, and fecund earth notes. The palate is exhibitng much more persistence and concentration but if anything there is more stony mineral as well. It is a complete wine. I'm thinking the wine is actually quite young yet. I am very impressed that I must wait another 3 to 5 years yet to sample the final bottle.

January 12, 2013 - Popped and poured. Wine stain all the way up the cork, stopping just short of the outer edge. Bricky light ruby hue with hints of rust color. After a few minutes the nose was pumping wafts of mulberry, forest floor, iron, thyme, and black currant. Lively and fresh (and still tannic) on the palate with layers of briar, black cherry, iron, and leather. Still freshened by ample acidity. Firm, almost austere structure. Long finish of incisive red fruits and mineral. The fruit began to recede somewhat as the evening progressed. Muscular Pommard evolving constantly throughout the evening - what a treat to sample it tonight. From a 375.
