Community Tasting Notes 5

April 1, 2010 - Charmes-Chambertin in an off vintage? Lovely and pure black cherry aromas and flavors, very soft and relaxed. Round on the palate, with moderate acidity and light tannins. Very pleasant, but lacks the stuffing to be truly great.

December 18, 2008 - This wine has just a touch of brett, I normally don't mind a little...but on a cali pinot it is not all that appealing. Brambly fruit, earth, and tobacco. A nice pinot, but I wouldn't buy it again.

August 8, 2007 - At Valencia, Norwalk, CT, with grilled hangar steak and mushrooms. Forward nose, very oaky, with lots of cedar, vanilla and spice covering the ripe black cherry fruit. On the palate, lush and full, but lacking a middle right now. The flavors are spot on for a ripe, jammy style of Pinot, with good tannins and acidity, and the alcohol (14.5%) is in check. Seems like it just needs some time to bring everything together. Hold off until 2009-2016.

March 10, 2007 - Not bad juice, but on this night, it definitely was closed down. No real nose. Decent hints of cherry cola. Just really small in general.

June 11, 2006 - Deep ruby. A really interesting nose of cherry, and caramel, followed by hints of spice, vanilla, and strawberry. The palate is smooth, with tastes of red fruit, caramel, and cola. The tannins are firm, with a nice balance of acidity. It finishes long and fruity.
