January 2, 2024 - I had a 1991 Trévallon a few weeks ago and it was halfway in the grave. This one was fully alive. The cork was a mess but I was able to perform cork-gery and get it out without even a speck in the wine. Win! The nose was initally musty and evolved but it didn’t take much air to get it back in shape (épaulé and about 20 minutes in the bottle): red fruited and beautiful florals with a backdrop of dried herbs, brine, sous-bois and crushed stones. The palate had less intensity than I was expecting but it wasn’t weak or dilute rather it was light and elegant. Ripe red berries dancing over the tongue, balanced acidity, fully integrated tannins and a mineral finish. Really enjoyable.

December 14, 2023 - Ludwig`s 55th (Le Ptit Garde-Manger, Thoiry, France): The nose is tricky: half-way between oxidized and beautiful. Weird balancing act. Prunes and red bell pepper yet some red berries, florals (géranium) and stony minerality. The palate is also iffy: some fruit and acidity left, some florals peeking through but mostly ripe red bell pepper and sous-bois. Over the hill but still fun.

September 10, 2021 - My first Trevallon in many years and well worth the wait. Forward nose of dark red fruit and black olives. The tannins are completely resolved. Moderately long finish. Not getting any better but no need to rush.

September 2, 2017 - Wine was properly stored from purchase upon release until consumed.
Beautiful color, luscious. Good structure, fully resolved. Wild fruits in the bouquet. Roses and raspberries. Morning forest. Honeysuckle and huckleberry. Clean, balanced, beautiful.

July 15, 2017 - This wine is definitely over the hill. Somewhat interesting nose, but the taste is unbalanced. In the mouth, it is bitter and acidic, with very little fruit. Simply unpalatable and undrinkable.

Longue finale. 18

October 25, 2011 - So far the vintages had been in line with Bordeaux, but here we made a departure. Ok, its a lighter style of Trevallon, but it was just lovely to drink now. Touch of medicine on the nose. some herbs. Misses the concentration of a top year, but its medium bodied, and has a moorish drinkability to it. The one i would have taken to dinner at the end of the tasting.

September 8, 2011 - Beautiful nose with some cedar, eucalyptus and olives. Plenty of earthy notes. Nice fruit with some cassis and blackberry. Surprisingly no dry tannins. Shows its age but there's always freshness on the nose. Rather a red fruit profile on the palate, almost roasted, verging on dark. Some bell pepper as well. Not the most concentrated Trevallon, still shows a very good balance. Very cabernet but with a subtle syrah influence.
    Very good.
