Second label of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion. Chateau La Tour Haut-Brion was integrated into the 2006 vintage and has since ceased to exist.
Producer tasting notes: "Very clean on the nose, with oak lending finesse and richness. Generous fruit, with surprising aromatic density for a second-label wine. On the palate, there is an initial attack of fresh fruit flavors enveloped by forward and firm tannins, promising great longevity. The firm tannins add structure to the typically long, persistent yet soft finish. A harmonious wine, full of charm." - Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion

- Producer Notes
- Containing a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot Noir and 5% Cabernet Franc, La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion develops aromas of tobacco, black fruit and a characteristic smoky hint. Produced in very “confidential” quantities, this red wine is the gateway to the world of Cha^teau La Mission Haut-Brion (3,000 to 3,500 cases). The key concept that defines this wine is pleasure, as it bewitches all the senses, even when young. It possesses all the harmony and seductive characteristics of its famous older brother.

- Vineyard Notes
-
With a surface under vines of 5 hectares, Cha^teau La Tour Haut-Brion was the smallest of the classed growths of red Graves before production ended with the 2005 vintage, when its vineyard was acquired by Cha^teau La Mission Haut-Brion. Since that year these parcels have been part of the surface area under vines of Cha^teau La Mission Haut-Brion, thus providing their distinctive contribution to the blends used in the creation of La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion’s more recent vintages. Cha^teau La Tour Haut-Brion wines up to and including the 2005 vintage may still be found on the market.

The weather conditions this year were very similar to the ones in 2000. The really hot weather in July (7 days were above 30 degrees) and in August (12 days were above 30 degrees), was very noteworthy. Other than two days of heavy rain, it did not rain very much between July 20th and September 20th. As a result the grapes matured slowly but perfectly. During the picking the weather was extremely mild and generally hot and dry with the exception of two days of heavy rain on September 22nd and October 3rd. We did not harvest during those two days.

The grapes harvested and the berries placed in vats, the temperature rises… Now it is time for fermentation to begin. Thanks to technology and precise temperature control, the fermentation is fully controlled. Two weeks later, when the colours, tannins and main aromas have contributed their full potential, it’s time to drain the vats.
