Community Tasting Notes 13

September 10, 2016 - A bunch of mostly Cal Cabs (MOCA (Cleveland)): This is a big, more masculine wine. Very powerful and stood in contrast to the more elegant Shafer Hillside Select. Lots of mocha and cassis on the nose. Firm tannins. Lots of fruit on the palate. While deep, it took some coaxing to get it to unwind a bit in the glass. This seemed to need air or more cellaring. That said, it is delicious and very satisfying now. Still, I would hold a bit.

March 13, 2016 - Did not decant, but was able to open and drink slowly over several hours. Really tasty, and time has been kind to this one. Drink or hold.

May 16, 2015 - Pure elegance in a bottle. Opened and decanted for one to two hrs and was immediately impressed with the structure and nuances of the bouquet. Flavors of back fruits dominate the initial taste, evolving to loamy cedar on the unbelievably long finish.

March 13, 2015 - Dark purple color. Almost, but not quite, opaque. Nose brimming with black fruits and vanillan spice. Roasted meat and plums on the palate. Nice acidity.

December 5, 2014 - Obviously still a very young wine, as it required 30 minutes plus of constant agitation. There is very strong middle reality and tightly wound tannins but absolutely bodacious fruit in this wine. I look forward to the fruit settling down, The tendons unwinding and some of that metal reality integrating with the many other flavors. I will try my other bottles in 3+ years.
