April 27, 2024 - Absolutely singing tonight. Loads of jammy fruit, but elegantly proportioned, not the least bit overdone, and good supporting tannins. Wasn't paying too much attention as took it for dinner at someone's house but it was just the business. Drink, or hold happily.
November 10, 2023 - A bit stringier than last time but still fine.
August 13, 2023 - Consistent with note from 2 years ago, this is moving along incredibly slowly. It has very pretty fruit and a lithe palate, and I look forward to watching it all come together over the next many years.
May 1, 2023 - Couldn't be more different to my previous note. I was expecting this to be tough and tiring - no way. Completely balanced maturing dried fruit, perfectly framed with firm tannins. Hugely moreish, it disappeared in a flash. Hope the remaining bottles are are like this one!
June 29, 2022 - South African-grade burnt rubber and chemical smoke, which I hate, rustic tannins, but enough fruit to make it bearable. Have it with burgers or at a barbecue. It’s actually quite nice despite what I’ve just said - a bruiser though, but mercifully in an old world way. It’s “only” 14%.
September 11, 2021 - Dense purple. Nose is fragrant and "lifted". Intense palate. Very firm tannins and acidity but no heaviness. Enjoyable now with aeration and the right food but promising a long evolution.
April 18, 2021 - Upon opening this was pretty dense and not totally friendly.
This note is tasting 24 hours later.
A: Dark core, dense. Jancis R tells me this hue is "garnet". Its been 10 years since my WSET and I think my scale had shifted. Good to re-calibrate.
N: Medium minus. herbal.
P: chunky, tasty palette. More fruity then savoury. Short finish. Tannins approachable (were less friendly when first opened).
=: drinking well but decant please. I'll enjoy tracking this case over a few years.
