October 16, 2023 - Showing really well, dark fruit, blackberry, black currants with a very attractive succulent/seductive character, really stood out as a special wine
June 13, 2023 - Fading but still with rich dark fruit. Nuanced finish with chewy tannins present. Some forest game and barnyard notes
September 24, 2022 - Familiar RdV nose. Cherry and tanned leather, blueberry and some dusty wood. Drinking very well right now, but still has years to go. Fruit is prominent. Merlot dominant. Great Bordeaux style wine.
March 20, 2022 - This wine is aging gracefully. Nose of crushed blueberries, gravel, touch of oak. Tannins have smoothed out. Black pepper notes have almost disappeared. Smooth, fruit is still present. Long finish. In its prime, but still has a few years ahead of it.
December 21, 2021 - In a good spot. Evolved over the course of the evening and into the next day. Very classic in style, doesn’t necessarily remind you of Bordeaux, but it has the complexity and character. Upon opening there was a bit of astringency but that subsided as the wine opened up. Nice structure, power and length, if a bit stemmy. Nice fruit.
Hard to believe it’s from Virginia.
April 21, 2021 - This wine is showing well and has more potential. Give it some more time. The fruit is still strong, tannins are silky, and still developing.
January 28, 2021 - Coming of age, gorgeous blend, especially for a VA wine. Smooth, silky tannins and nice long finish
May 10, 2020 - This wine is in a great place, but still has years ahead of it. Blackberry, black pepper, leather on the nose. Garnet in the glass. Medium+ tannins that are silky smooth. Very enjoyable bottle.
July 7, 2018 - Toast, moderately intense aromatics of baked blackberry with slight smoked meat. Relatively high extraction. Big up front, but a little too much over time.
June 17, 2018 - Best of the bunch from ‘12 - ‘14. Dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry, tail end cocoa, cinnamon and some vanilla. Fruit is a bit sweeter the. Other vinetages, good balance and very enjoyable.
