  July 8, 2018 - Been a LONG time since I tasted this wine...over 10 years. This vineyard and the region itself is what set me afire for CA syrah and so it was fun to revisit some old memories. It does have the merde aromatic when first opened, so even a decade later that seems to be an enduring feature of the wine. With air, it backs off and the wine shows what was typical for a riper year of Rosella's, with BBQ sauce, sweet leather and red/black fruit. The wine doesn't seem to be losing any character and while it does have a touch of sweet inside the core of the wine, there is still some complexity of flavor at 15 years to make this a fun glass of syrah.

  June 9, 2013 - Paired with Maine chopped suey, this wine is an interesting concoction that when we tasted it at the Novy tasting room in ~2005 it was described as having a bacon fat nose, which we remember it exhibiting. Opened a dark ruby, this has a unique if not bizarre nose of sour cherry, bacon fat, quince, bell pepper. Certainly flawed in its composition, it nevertheless shows very dark sweet fruits of black cherry, blackberry, tart cranberry, menthol, licorice, scorched earth. Lacking acidity, this velveteen syrup is a very unique wine that would serve a good teaching point for the particular flaws it demonstrates. Still very drinkable and enjoyable. On day two under vac-u-vin this soured up, with grapefruit notes dominating. The bizarre matchstick/sulfuric note were present still with agitation, but had calmed down some. The sour acidity detracted from the experience on this day.

  November 19, 2009 - Drinking so well now. Ripe fruit, but not sweet or cloying, this is a superior Syrah, as most Novy are. Full-bodied, plenty of dark fruits, resolving tannins, lush, and totally hedonistic. Superb.

  May 4, 2009 - If you like grapefruit you will like this wine. In fact even if you don't like grapefruit you will like this wine. This wine has aged well and it seems to be at it's peak but no where near in decline. A very nice Novy.
