May 3, 2024 - A big fruity and heavy wine with flavors that are smooth and supple. Heavy blackberry and moderate oak with a fine tannin that is well integrated. The wine was very tenacious after opening. I had the chance to have a taste a day after and 3 days afte opening; The wine held up well and maintained a full flavored taste without showing any significant oxidation.

September 3, 2023 - It’s fine. I was hoping some air would coax something interesting out of it, but it just stayed straight in the middle of the road. Ok. Part if a previously purchased mystery case, that now makes sense…

June 26, 2023 - A little dusty on the nose, herbal, midweight on the palate - I kind of assumed it would be big and fleshy given the over large bottle, but it wasn’t at all. Interesting, if unlikely to age too much longer

March 18, 2023 - 2014 Von Strasser Reserve: pleasant nose, dark fruit but not very complex. Tannins have virtually disappeared leaving super soft blueberry and blackberry, pine and mint notes. Short finish and overall pretty one dimensional. It’s good and, never having this wine before, I’d say it’s probably peaking and should be opened now. I expected way more out of this. Glad I didn’t open with company. Probably wouldn’t buy again but I’d be willing to try the Cabernet.

March 5, 2023 - Rather one dimensional. Straightforward fruit and no tertiary flavors. Not a bad wine but lacks character for the price.

March 5, 2022 - 2014 Von Strasser Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain, alc 14.1%
    Decanted 2hrs
    Deep dark dense purple
Ripe blackberries on the nose with some oak showing
Palate follows with many layers of ripe fruit and a nice balance. Moderate tannins. No overt oak on the palate
A “big” style but well done

August 30, 2021 - Double decanted to drink 5 hours later. Still on the young side and struggling to open up at first

Black cherry and blueberry, eucalyptus, and anise on the nose - very appealing. Soft initial mouthfeel and then switches to more wild elements including menthol and heat. This ends faster than hoped for initially and then fights to unveil a longer finish’s with time. Would benefit from more cellar time and a great value if acquired for -$50.

January 30, 2021 - Von Strasser Winery Tasting: A blend of 40% cabernet, 40% petit verdot, and 10% each of malbec and merlot, the Reserve Diamond Mountain was rich and layered with dark fruits, dark chocolate, and dark spice. It suffered from burning high alcohol content and tannins that I'm not sure can hold up to the years this wine still needs to mellow out. Overall, there might be something promising here, but I'm at a loss for why anybody would pay $45 more for a bottle of the Reserve over the much tastier Post or 2131.

November 16, 2020 - Typical Von Strasser. Nice melody of flavors that are hard to beat. Mountain fruit that hits al the right chords.
