October 15, 2023 - Violet, sweet spice, a little reductive upon opening but goes away after swirl. It’s perfumed and more concentrated than other wines tonight. Vibrant and fresh. Doesn’t feel like 8 yrs old to me. This is what a high quality 1er cru should feel like. This domaine doesn’t disappoint.

September 10, 2023 - Very elegant deep pitched perfume, totally open. This mirrors my note from a couple years ago. Wonderful aromatics and a great bottle of Volnay drinking well now.

May 30, 2023 - Jim brought this for Johnny's lunch and we enjoyed a lot. It was in deep ruby colour, darker fruit nose and spicier and sharp palate, medium body. A very yound volnay I can say better to stay for 5 more year a least.

March 3, 2023 - The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Slightly deeper than the 2017 in color. Riper cherry aromas. Medium weight. Fine depth of black cherry fruit encased by strong tannic grip. Excellent but unready.

January 15, 2023 - Orange rind, black tea, black cherry, and a little singed sugar. Pretty complex and fine stuff. Would love to replace it if I could.

January 15, 2023 - Terrific. Starting to settle down showing nice earthy elements with fine ripe cherry notes. Seems to have everything in place to become a fine Volnay—though perfectly enjoyable now.

December 8, 2021 - A great Santenots. Fantastic purity of fruit. Dark sweet berry perfume balanced by pure floral and spice elements. Great balance on the palate despite it's youth. A winner

November 24, 2019 - Jean-Pierre Reniard Burgundy Wine Seminar (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant): Tasted in Riedel Burg glass.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, reductiveness (or is it brett that Allen Meadows claims there is?) that blows off with swirling to show stewed ripe red cherries, oak. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of stewed red cherries, red plums, black cherries, brambly bushes, toasty oak. Long finish.
Very good quality. Ripe vintage shows and this serious polished Volnay has lots of material, and will still require some age to integrate and show, may be like 4-5 years. It is what it is.

March 3, 2018 - La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Destemmed. Complex black and red cherry with rich spice everywhere. Ripe, powerful, well structured supporting notes. Wonderful already, but this needs cellar time to really show its complexity.
