Community Tasting Notes 76

January 31, 2024 - Served blind. Blackberry confiture, cassoulet, with a heady eucalyptus note. Palate is dense, cooked blackberry, verging on syrupy, with alcohol evident. One taster confidently called it Aussie Shiraz which is damning here. This is almost not wine at all given how savoury it is, my wife (who knows nothing about Cayuse etc.) called it revolting and absolutely refused to drink it. I thought it was interesting but found the old Faury Cote Rotie more appealing, especially with dinner.

February 14, 2023 - My 5th out of 6 direct from the winery. Cellared since & decanted upon opening. Unfortunately there was a smokey reductive component that overwhelmed this bottle. Hope my last is like my prior bottles!

December 19, 2022 - Standard reaction to this wine , some really liked it and others thought it was weird. I thought it was unique as usual.

February 28, 2022 - A more elegant wine than the '03 which we drank the night before. Slight floral notes on the nose, missing the typical Cayuse funk. Drinking beautifully after a two hour decant.

October 15, 2021 - No notes taken. This again had everything you expect from the Frog: very high complexity, ever changing aroma profile, the strong black olive notes and a fine structural frame. With 16 years of age, this has shed most of its baby fat and is no longer an overly broad and intense monster. For a higher score it would have needed a clearly higher precision and a tad more length. Still, definitely an amazing wine.

Decanting: PnP and then decanted and followed over an hour+. Didn‘t need much air. It‘s great to follow the wine through the different stages.
