January 31, 2023 - Chassagne Ruchottes / Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru tasting (Groot-Ammers, Netherlands): Magnum. Honeyed, powerful and authoritative, depth and weight, needs time to develop in the glass, salty oak, very good length. Not an obvious wine.
August 30, 2020 - Not totally sure what to make of this. At first it smells like dry Riesling with overt pineapple and white peach and more stone fruit kind of scents. It also feels quite sweet upfront. It takes a long while to develop a more smoky and sulfur character. The straight Montrachet richness, density, and power are there for sure, although they are expressed through fruits and with a level of sweetness I don’t think any other producers really use. Good to drink, but different.
June 29, 2019 - Occasional dinner group; Best bottles in white and red. (@ Bottles; Sas van Gent, Netherlands): Complex and beautiful bouquet with some candy, lemon and minerals. On the palate the same impressions, some nuts and vanilla, beautiful acidity and bitterness. Full bodied and a great length. A real beauty with plenty of future.
February 11, 2019 - Smells of vanilla custard, smoke and white peach. It is powerful, rich and long. The essence of Montrachet drinking close to the top of its game.
December 29, 2018 - Totally pre-moxed. What a waste. Boillot is hopeless on premox.
November 24, 2017 - Not up to the level of '02 at this time, needs more time to unwind. Though, I'm not yet convinced the '05 will ever be quite at the '02 level, time will tell.
July 8, 2016 - this bottle rocks. comes out light yellow with a youthful touch of green. I'm not a big fan of 05 white burgs as i find them a bit over ripe but this is straight and lovely line of lemony minerality
January 8, 2016 - Slightly reduced at the start. Hint of menthol. More restrained than the 02 Lafon Perrieres served alongside. Big, rich, viscous wine on the palate. Very good acidity. Long finish. Put away for awhile and hope it stays sound.
January 8, 2016 - Decanted for two hours. Good news, no premox. Drank well, and we left this in glasses for a couple of hours and it materially improved. Good wine, should become very good, but not rock star IMHO.
