October 3, 2023 - To me, this is VERY textbook Serralunga; with the modernist twist of being pretty heavy on the French oak.
Dried porcini mushrooms, old books, old leather, licorice, dirt, black truffles, milk chocolate, tobacco and smoke on the nose. Not much fruit. Palate adds a little bit of ripe black cherries, and ripe strawberries, a LOT of cedar wood, as well as espresso grounds and rose petals (my favorite flavor combination on modern style Barolo!). The fruit is most present on the finish, but overall; this is a fruit-backward Barolo dominated by secondary and tertiary flavors and aromas. Intensity of flavors and aromas are both medium +.
Medium + body with medium acid and smooth medium + tannins that are taking their time to resolve. This feels like a wine where the structure will outlive the flavor. As it stands, I think it's past peak by a year or two; but still enjoyable. Drink now!
November 13, 2020 - Licorice on the nose. Still nice structure. Drink it now
March 2, 2019 - Double decanted and tasted 45 minutes later. Noticeable oak influence. Acids have softened. Tannins are firm. Nice sappy, resiny fruit. Dry, but long finish. I like this.
December 17, 2018 - Elegant Barolo, still has quite some time in its drinking window
November 3, 2018 - Pepper on the noise and taste. Long finish with chocolate and licorice. Nice acid could go a few more years.
October 14, 2018 - Great nose. Palette was pleasant- very Barolo character. Great finish
October 4, 2017 - Casual session at ES BK.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, garnet colour.
Nose of malt sugar, stewed plums, increasing Sherry with more air and swirling in the glass.
Still nice on the palate, but I will call this bottle as flawed.
At least 50% oxidized.
September 30, 2017 - Much better than the previous bottle. This is much more vibrant and interesting. Nice grip from the acids. Tannins are mostly resolved. Lovely cherry fruit with some sous bois.
September 23, 2017 - Consumed at Il Centro in Priocca. With the one and only Lorenzo Scavino! Wow this was in a superb place. Beautiful tertiary notes coming in with some fungus dark chocolate forest characteristics but still the deep dark fruit from San Rocco. Stunning tonight. As for maturity it's not far from it so I'd open them within the next year or so before it may head the other direction
September 23, 2017 - Pretty ok
