September 19, 2014 - Drinking beautifully. Elegant lighter body style CDP. Wish I had more to taste over next decade.

September 15, 2014 - This is my first taste of the '05 since 2012 and this has fleshed out nicely and has shed a lot of its baby fat since then. Tonight this is a classic Vieux Telegraphe with dark brooding flavors of cassis and plum. Tobacco, leather and coffee notes with lots of garrigue show up on the mid palate and are followed by fairly aggressive tannins on the longish finish. With a traditional old world style, this is quite nice right now with a couple of hours of double decanting.

September 14, 2014 - Served blind to Camille, her notes:

    C: Garnet, bricking rim. Transparent.
N: Red fruit, cherry, graphite, slate, spice, cinnamon, straight tight grained oak, leather, menthol
P: Light cherry, spice, cinnamon, cloves, menthol, finely grained wood tannin.
Medium body, medium+ acid, medium+ tannin, medium+ EtOH, age >10 years old.

    Camille's guess: Old world, syrah, ?GSM/CDP, > 10 years, value $80-100.

September 3, 2014 - The wine is barely translucent, and a deep, dark garnet color. The smells are stone, brushy herbs, currant, blackberry, and dark cherry. The tastes are sour cherry, stone, Provencal herbs, blackberry, and spicy notes. This wine is a bit tight and the tannins are still pretty stout.

July 21, 2014 - Disappointed. Not a bad wine, but had higher hopes given the reputation of this wine and the tasting reports. Found the nose a little too inexpressive. The classical southern Rhone aromas are there, but the intensity and complexity are not more than average. For me this could be matched by well-made, less expensive wines from appellations like lirac, vacqueyras, or even cotes du rhone. The weight in the mouth is OK and on the positive side.

(Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf du Pape) A cherry pink-red hue in the glass. Often when tasted at this stage in its evolution I have found Vieux Télégraphe to be rather simple in its aromatics, but this wows me with wild notes of garrigue and aromatic herbs on top of the usual sweet fruit. It has a very soft entry onto the palate despite this, but then reveals a well composed supple melding of ripe tannins, well covered by fruit, with a good acid backbone as well. There is true character here too. Great potential, a fine vintage for the Bruniers I think.
