September 13, 2014 - PHMG WAG: Tour de France 2014 (Chateau Lyon): A nice light gold color, this wine has notes of tart citrus, flowers, stone fruit, some tropical fruit, and the requisite petrol. Similar on the palate with moderate acidity and minimal if any sugar. Very nice mouthfeel and length. Has LOTS of time. Deserves some spicy food.

September 12, 2014 - This was fantastic. Cork soaked half way. Sherry, petrol and dirt aromas upon opening. Lemon, lime, honey and herb aromas blossomed with time. Medium bodied with great richness, fruitiness, acid and length. The attack was broad and soft with the acid and intensity building into a great crescendo, finishing clean. Texturally amazing. Still a little rough around the edges and at moments it felt thin but who's complaining. I still can't decide if there was some RS or that the material was so ripe it just tasted sweet. At or near peak. Good for at least another 5 years. Great with kyo-kaiseki, though it was over whelmed by a tororo soba in a particularly sweet broth.

September 5, 2014 - Asperg Grand Growth Riesling Cup (Asperg): Maison Trimbach's Cuvée Frédieric Emile Riesling 2004 from Alsace showed pure Riesling colouration. A pretty bright colour for its age and origin, with plenty of midget sediments. Its nose was dominated by lean and very straight fragrances of cool lemon, lemon tea, lilac, some aloe vera and beautifully stern and profoundly gripping characteristics of limestone (perhaps imagined). Its taste showed a strong imprinted by limestone as well. The very lively and well balanced green herbs of fennel, aloe vera, sage etc. in combination with elegant flavours of very cool and crisp seeming lemons were able to touch me vinophil soul to a certain extent. Besides that the Frédieric Emile showed a very invigorating and well fitting acid. For me a fantastic and very forthright kind of dry Riesling. The group score was 91,0 points. My rating was 92 points.

September 5, 2014 - 2004 Riesling Großes Gewächs retrospective (Chris Home): Colour: Light, intense golden colour
Nose: A bit closed, opened up after some time in the glass. A bit of mango, plastic and a strong aloe vera aspect. Very subtle nose.
Palate: Nice acidity, salty, tension & power is there on a good level but it didn´t blow me away. Medium bodied. Good lenght.

(Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile) Sourced from grands crus Geisberg and Osterberg, says Jean Trimbach, the vines having an average age of 50 years, with the oldest up to 70. A bright and fresh nose here, limes and minerals in abundance, with a well-balanced and elegant substance. A grainy depth, supple and with plenty of appeal for the future. Excellent potential here.
