December 11, 2014 - Alluring, complex nose of mint, coffee, mixed currants, and brown sugar. Fruit profile not as pure/precise/delineated as other vintages I've had. Plush mouthfeel with powdery tannins and a nice sweet/sour balance. A little disjointed in the mouth--this kind of vanishes after the midpalate, only to reappear with a vengeance for a very long aftertaste. This is a wine that manages to showcase its finesse despite medium-plus body and concentration. Probably the weakest CB I've had (I wouldn't know how to assess the 2006 because it was too young), but still a very strong showing for a not-spectacular vintage that's almost 50 years old.

August 13, 2014 - A small impromptu dinner - Bordeaux and Champagne (Washington D.C.): Fully mature nose of tertiary notes, subtle sweet black fruits, a hint of cassis, mushroom, leather, dry tobacco and damp cellar. Good concentration but round and soft, sweet tertiary palate impression, fully integrated tannins and medium length. Sweet but shy tertiary impression. No need to wait. I would love to try from a well stored magnum.

December 23, 2013 - Stored in my cellar for 35 years. Minimal ullage. Garnet color with faint brown edge. Very forward, fruity nose with hints of cassis and tobacco. Very full body, explodes in the mouth, well structured/great balance of tannins, alcohol and fruit. Long lingering finish. What's not to like?

Extremely full body (explodes on the palate). great balance with plenty of fruit, some tannins and alcohol.
Long, lingering fruity finish....A fabulous wine!

(Château Cheval Blanc) Bricking medium red violet color; mature, earthy, black fruit, graphite nose; good tart plum, black fruit, cigar ash, graphite palate; medium-plus finish 92+ pts. (poured blind; my 2nd guess was "old Cheval")

(Cheval Blanc) The next flight began with a 1966, which had wonderful aromatics, although Serena Sutcliffe, whom I had the pleasure of sitting with, was very sensitive to some chlorine in the glass. Once we worked past that, there were tender and sweet aromas of winter, cherries, minerals, earth, candle wax and a touch of sexy sweat. While the aromatics were nice, the palate was very, very dry and lean, with no sweetness whatsoever and a citrus-y, dry and uninspiringly earthy personality
