May 30, 2016 - Herbs, Curry, spices, very nice sweetness, great mouthfeel. Amazing wine!

February 6, 2016 - Still garnet in the glass, edges lightening up only somewhat. Medium intense nose of damp soil, ferns, some damp tobacco. Tertiary and vegetal, although not in an entirely dissatisfying way. Livens up with a bit of coaxing: tea leaves, peppermint, menthol, echinacea. Ethereal but with power in the background. Big berry fruit on the palate, fully mature with tannins almost all resolved. Damp leathers. Sweet red cherry fruit surpasses currant and rhubarb. Tingling mouthfeel. A beautiful and special glass. Be patient with it once open, slow but expressive.

January 23, 2016 - Very well preserved, still with vibrant fruit, distinctly fruitcake and spice, pure and very smooth. Impressive.

December 20, 2015 - This was decent, but not like the other notes here suggest. Certainly dense and dark, with some fruit left but it showed a bit tired and stewed. An off bottle, perhaps. B/B+

December 20, 2015 - Cheval Blanc Vertical Tasting (Old Swiss House, Lucerne, Switzerland): Mature in color. Nose was loaded with ripe berries (raspberry) and prunes. Lots of power, nice sweetness and good balance. A bit short and high on acidity. Als the tannins are too dry for my taste. Still a good wine and one of the best 1966s I had so far.

(Château Cheval Blanc) Bricking medium red violet color; mature, earthy, black fruit, graphite nose; good tart plum, black fruit, cigar ash, graphite palate; medium-plus finish 92+ pts. (poured blind; my 2nd guess was "old Cheval")
