Community Tasting Notes 4

December 6, 2021 - My first war years Sauternes was a cool lesson in history, but a less than satisfying wine. Dark orange tea and amber in color, much of the sweetness seems to have faded while the acidity has taken the front and center position. Better on the nose with its molasses, burnt caramel, toasted sugar and butterscotch profile, the lack of sweetness on the palate made this OK to taste, but not all that exciting.

March 13, 2015 - Dry nose and palate with apricot and mango. Has held up reasonably well but its best days are behind it.

October 29, 2011 - Chateau d'Yquem Masterclass (Amber, Hong Kong): Dark but clear amber. Still slightly oily smell and a bit subdued. But wow, this had a great palate. Explodes with fresh primary fruit flavours which seems to last for ever. Quite a surprise.

May 20, 2004 - Brown. Scents of plums and figs. Also spirits and a distinct local brew" note akin to fortified wine. Good definition and initial flavour, however quite short on the aftertaste with the fruit fading fast, leaving behind a not so nice trail of alcohol. In all fairness, the wine did possess good complexity and identity, but it faded quite quickly.
