June 12, 2017 - Wine was properly stored from delivery upon release until consumed. Initial bottle funk blew off and a beautiful bouquet of honey, apricot and butterscotch emerged. Beautiful mouth feel, lovely balance. Try again in 2 years.

April 22, 2017 - Académie des Cinquante Claret Tasting (Restaurant de Moerbei *, Warmond, NL): Deep and rich and oaky, barley sugar, big and fat and full, tropical fruit and honey, intense and long but lacks elegance - even in this stellar vintage.

April 15, 2017 - Epic 2001 Sauternes Horizontal (San Francisco): Tasted single-blind. From a 375. Golden color; more savory on the nose, spice, a bit lacking in fruit on the aromatics; palate is medium bodied, good acidity throughout, but again a bit lacking in the fruit in the midpalate; short-medium finish. Falls a bit short at this level. 87. I thought this was the Rayne Vigneau.

February 25, 2017 - Same notes as my last bottle. Orange peal, citrus, peaches, and white flowers. It was not overly sweet.

(Chateau Guiraud) From a half bottle. A rich hue in the glass, glossy gold. On the nose there is plenty of depth and structure rather than any simple sweetness. We have here oatmeal, the oak of old whisky barrels, marmalade and barley sugar. The palate is typical Guiraud, very fleshy and soft, rich, expansive, with fruit-pastille-orange character alongside orange blossom. It has acidity too, firm although admittedly rather swamped by the wine's impressive substance. Very good, great potential, although it remains in a very primary state at present, a melange of loose-knit components. Excellent potential though.

(Chateau Guiraud Sauternes) From a half bottle. Quite a deep colour here, vibrant gold tinged with hues of orange. A fine but plainly youthful and primary nose, displaying macerated orange fruit with honey and barley sugar, together with a little residual oak. Lovely presence on the palate though - there is intense richness of flavour, and a considerably weighty, creamy, viscous texture, but there is fine acidity too, so at no point does it appear unbalanced or blowsy. Appealing orange-floral notes. Soft, creamy, slowly fading endpalate. A very fine length too. This remains very primary at present and only time will reveal the complexity and interest that must lie within. Excellent.
