January 3, 2015 - a 375. dark straw. glycerol. apricot and peach nose, with spice. delightful attack and a long, smooth, seamless finish of apricot, honeysuckle, and a hint of flint. turns out to have been a steal in 2004.

December 24, 2014 - Wine was properly stored from purchase upon release until consumed. Immediate intense bouquet of apricots, spice, vanilla and honey. Fresh, clean, beautiful. Intense sweetness in the mouth, perfectly balanced with enough acid to carry the flavor. This is a wonderful sauternes and will develop for a long time.

December 24, 2014 - Light golden. Soaring, classic aromas of botrytized fruit and grilled nuts. Unctuous, sweet, pristine tropical fruit and caramel, exquisite balance with deep imbued acidity that keeps enlivens it and keeps it from feeling flabby. I am not generally a Sauternes fan, but I loved this bottle. Tremendous depth and length, definitely at a point of at least early maturity.

December 23, 2014 - Not a show stopper but quite nice. From half bottle that sat in my temperature controlled cellar for 10 years. Upon opening it seemed a bit sweet and flabby. Once the wine cooled down via ice it showed much better.

December 22, 2014 - Enjoyable for the most part, with good medium freshness and complexity, but found some unresolved oak tannin getting in the way of the fruit, and coming across as slightly disjointed. From 750, this could use some more age.

(Chateau Guiraud) From a half bottle. A rich hue in the glass, glossy gold. On the nose there is plenty of depth and structure rather than any simple sweetness. We have here oatmeal, the oak of old whisky barrels, marmalade and barley sugar. The palate is typical Guiraud, very fleshy and soft, rich, expansive, with fruit-pastille-orange character alongside orange blossom. It has acidity too, firm although admittedly rather swamped by the wine's impressive substance. Very good, great potential, although it remains in a very primary state at present, a melange of loose-knit components. Excellent potential though.

(Chateau Guiraud Sauternes) From a half bottle. Quite a deep colour here, vibrant gold tinged with hues of orange. A fine but plainly youthful and primary nose, displaying macerated orange fruit with honey and barley sugar, together with a little residual oak. Lovely presence on the palate though - there is intense richness of flavour, and a considerably weighty, creamy, viscous texture, but there is fine acidity too, so at no point does it appear unbalanced or blowsy. Appealing orange-floral notes. Soft, creamy, slowly fading endpalate. A very fine length too. This remains very primary at present and only time will reveal the complexity and interest that must lie within. Excellent.
