July 3, 2022 - An Epic Summer Wine Weekend; 7/1/2022-7/3/2022 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): This pours medium straw in the glass, just a hair darker than the wine poured next to it. Not massively expressive. Aromas are of tart green apple, burlap, lemon, and a light airy white flower component. On the palate this is lean and light, with low dosage (feeling like 4 g/l) with high, tart, green apple acid. All in all this wasn't really showing a lot on this day, fairly lean and straightforward. Not rated as it's not really my preferred style (I like a tad more richness and autolysis).

April 16, 2022 - Disgorged October 2018, 2 g/L dosage. This wine is outstanding: rich without being overbearing, stands up well to briny food pairings (e.g., feta and olives). Dry, precise aftertaste that concludes each sip with clarity rather than lingering on. Aromas of toasted almonds and other subtle notes emerge with a bit of air time in a Zalto-style white wine glass. Memorable and delicious.

December 5, 2021 - Pale gold. Brioche, toast, lemon, some green fruit notes, and lots of yeasty aromas. Very long and persistent with great acidity. Balanced, concentrated grower champagne. Terrific.

Intensely aromatic: an exquisite balance between a pastry-heavy nose with remarkable oxidative notes. Lots of mushrooms and truffles, fire place, toasted brioche, bread dough, Danish butter cookies, some aged cheese, honey, vanilla, cardamom, black pepper; very ripe fruits, guava, pineapple, blackberries, cranberries, smoky, very present Sherry-like oxidative and slightly acetic (nail polish) note on the finish.
Lelarge-Pugeot's wines are usually very pleasurable to drink, but this one was truly impressive. Concentrated, dense, complex, and extremely long; the intensity stays on the palate for a long time. I'd love to drink this again in another 5-10 years.

Medium-bodied, mildly oxidative (caramel apple skin, graham cracker, but nothing quite verging on sherry notes), with lots of zip still. Doesn't quite rival the overall transcendence of the best of the 2006 St. Chamants we've had recently (a different animal, and probably an unfair comparison, aside from vintage), but this is unquestionably a great wine. Vinous and rich and ready for food.
