December 13, 2020 - This Marquis Shiraz held up much better than his cabs. Still had deep ruby color and adequate fruit with soft tannins.

October 22, 2020 - This wine hasn't budged a whole lot since release—maybe a tad leaner. Confectionary notes of blueberry maple syrup, cheese danish, black plum, ripe fig, and dark chocolate. Still a fun wine, even if the finish reveals the stitches from its plastic surgery.

October 19, 2018 - Sweet and savory. Good age. Very big. Port notes tim.

August 12, 2018 - Seamless dark fruit, juicy and rich. A pleasure to drink. Glad I waited.

  • Thoughtful Likes this wine: 93 points

November 5, 2017 - Stored in cold cellar since release. Stelvin. Perfect condition. Deep colour-still bright red. Powerful bouquet. Harmonious balanced shiraz with real depth. Ideal slightly spiced food. No hotness from 16.5% alcohol. A minor classic. Will last.

(Mollydooker Shiraz The Boxer) After many years of selling the incredible products of Sparky and Sarah Marquis (Fox Creek, Henry’s Drive, Marquis Philips), I recently learned that their last name is correctly pronounced MAR-kwis. I had even visited them eight years ago in South Australia to find out the secret behind their consistent, high-flying intensity and pure velvet textures. What do I know? There is no secret—just a smart, meticulously detailed approach to winemaking from the ground up. Mollydooker is the Marquises’ most recent venture, and the silly thing about the “The Boxer” is that its plush, juicy, wham-bam quality is no less intense than that of Shirazes selling for two or three times more. Expect pungent American oak (dill-like, vanillin notes) along with typically Aussie, round, fruit-bomb flavor, but the bottle cost (as low as $10 in some markets) makes it a powerful bottom-line performer.
