June 1, 2018 - This half bottle 2005 Nicolas Potel Criot Batard Montrachet is drinking very nicely. An opulent nose with pineapple, stone, custard, and oak. Palate has very high acidity which is surprising for a ripe vintage and this terroir. A well balanced wine that shows the richness and fatness of the terroir despite a hot vintage. The Potel oaky character is obvious on the palate but not disturbing. Got lucky with these half bottles as the regular 750ml certainly did not show this well at all when it was consumed last year. 91+

June 19, 2017 - Lots of mango, peach and oak on the nose. Palate is rich and ripe yet theres more acidity than I would expect for a 05. The oak element is very prevalent on the palate which is very common for potel. The richness is pleasing but the wine is one dimensional. The half btl I had was more pleasing.

January 8, 2017 - From a 375ml. The nose has ripe mango, peaches, oak, cake and egg custard. Palate has grand cru weight with a balance between fatness and acidity. This wine will improve in 3-4 years. A rarely successful 05 white that can age. This is much better than 05 Jacques Prieur Montrachet I drank last week. 91-92

February 15, 2015 - Sunday Night Dinner (Eric & Megan's - Chicago): A rich wine without being overly concentrated. Had some lush pear and apple tones with some deeper flinty notes in there too. Palate had nice balance with some background exotic tones of what felt like passion fruit or peach. Very nice.

February 15, 2015 - A fairly round and full-bodied Burgundy, with flavors of tropical fruits, vanilla and citrus; There's definitely some oak treatment, but there's a nice spine of minerals and acidity that keeps everything in balance; Could use some more time to integrate, but pretty tasty today

November 8, 2014 - Medium lemon. On the nose, citrus pith and minerals, with lemon in the background. Flavors similar to the nose, with a creamy texture that reveals layers of flavor as it warms in the glass. The is medium/full body, medium-high acid, some well-integrated oak, and a very long finish. Probably not yet at its peak, but very drinkable tonight nevertheless. Terrific wine.

October 5, 2014 - Initially, I served this too cold (out of the refrigerator), but then let it warm up in the glass and breathe, and what a difference; Palate has lots of tropical fruits, pears, brioche and a backbone of minerality that keeps everything in balance; Really impressive, this should continue to gain complexity with more time

August 9, 2013 - Jordi said it was from a small plot of 0.7 hectare.
Pale gold, nose of citrus, pear and mineral. Light sense of butter sense and freshness on the palate.

June 15, 2013 - From 750ml. Served at the Orrery in London. Decanted and served immediately. Colour was golden yellow, shot through with a youthful green tinge. Bright and clear. Nose was initially a little muted, some lemon, minerals a whiff of butter. The true brilliance of this wine was revealed on tasting. An initial seam of rich minerality was just the start of this wine on the palate. Layer after layer of lemon, lime, a roaring midpalate and a wonderful, long and buttery finish. Incerdibly vibrant and complex with a vein of balanced acidity. Developed even further flavours as it warmed and opened up.
This was some of the best White Burgundy I have had in a long while and is everything I love about the 2005 vintage. Rich but with balancing minerality and acidity this is drinking wonderfully now but I can only think it will develop further in the next couple of years. There was not even a hint of premox. Nicolas Potel has created a fabulous wine from this sliver of little-kmown terroir. Great value too. My WOTN against both Yquem and Leoville Lascases - pretty formidable competition.
